Thank you for your interest in the Joint PhD in Educational Studies Program!

The admission portal for the 2026 Academic Year will open in May 2025. The deadline to receive all required documents, INCLUDING reference submission will be October 1, 2025.

Note that the Joint Ph.D. in Educational Studies Office of the Secretariat will be housed at the University of Windsor from 2023-2028. All applications (home university choice of Brock University, Lakehead University, or the University of Windsor) will be initially processed through the University of Windsor online application system.

We invite you to find out more about the application process, academic curriculum, and services that we offer at the Doctoral level.

For more in depth information on the program, as well as policies and procedures, please refer to the Program Handbook.

Students admitted to the Joint PhD in Educational Studies Program must attend Doctoral Seminar I in the year they are admitted, and in the following year they must attend Doctoral Seminar II. These seminars are held on campus and are hosted by one of the partner universities on a rotating basis.

In July 2026, these seminars will be held at the University of Windsor (Windsor, Ontario)  and in July 2027 the seminars will be held at the Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Ontario campus.

The Doctoral studies commence early July and have 72 hours of instruction.  Classes are typically held from Monday to Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm (EST) and attendance is mandatory for the full duration of the course – no requests for late arrival or early departure to and from the classes will be accepted. Note that attendance to the keynote presentation is also mandatory and is usually scheduled following a class from  1:00pm-3:00pm (EST). Note there is also the potential of additional workshops that may be scheduled following class-time in the afternoon that will require attendance.
